Pet Protection Day at The Glen Orphans of the Storm Benefit Dinner 2006 Lake County Vaccination Clinic Holiday Wrapping with the Orphans ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Pet Protection Day at The Glen "Adopt a friend for life" was our message as Orphans of the Storm joined other animal support groups at the Glen recently. It was the first ever Pet Protection Day, organized by Congressman Mark Kirk's office and the local regional office of the Humane Society of the United States. Boy Scout troop 55 was on hand to set up and offer assistance. Orphans of the Storm's booth was manned by volunteers and our director, Gail. We brought along puppies and kittens available for adoption. The pets were a big hit and kept our volunteers busy. One puppy and one kitten found forever families that morning. A crowd of pets and their people gathered throughout the morning to speak with the participants and enjoy pet competitions. Best trick and most look-a-like pet and master got quite a few chuckles. Vice President Mike Markonian of the Humane Society spoke about important animal legislation pending in Congress that needs support from animal lovers. We all signed the petitions. Congressman Mark Kirk spoke of his support for the animal legislation. He even brought his own dog along for the fun. This was yet another chance for us to get the word out that Orphans of the Storm is a great place to find a first rate pet. If you are interested in volunteering at a future event to help handle animals and adoptions, please contact Jackie Borchew at 847-940-8508.
