Orphans of the Storm Benefit Dinner 2006
Monday, April 24, 2006 Marriott's Lincolnshire Resort

The generosity of our friends and supporters really made our sixth annual Orphans of the Storm Benefit Dinner, "Barking Up A Storm" the biggest and best so far! The silent auction alone raised over $18,000, every penny of which will go toward the best care possible for the thousands of orphans that we expect will reach our door throughout 2006.

The Orphans of the Storm benefit evening, held at the Marriott's Lincolnshire Resort, was beautiful as well as informative. Each year we raise more awareness of our valuable service for the residents and pets of northeastern Illinois. Each year our guest list grows. On this past Monday, April 24th, we partnered with Bark! the Musical to sing out our common message to the 200+ attendees. The pedigree cast's portrayal of six shelter dogs was a hit. That message of the plight of the stray and abandoned animals was heard loud and clear.

In the weeks previous, donations, large and small, arrived through the mail or were hand-delivered to the shelter. An English bone china dog bowl, a Sutton Studio portrait for you and your pet, a top of the line Weber gas grill. A weekend in the city, a weekend in Napa Valley. Sox tickets, theatre tickets and a taste of the north shore package that could entertain a couple with weeks of dinners. Diamond stud earrings and a rainbow sapphire bracelet. An oil pastel painting from an adopter who wanted to show her gratitude for her best friend she found at the shelter. These were some of the irresistable items that made for a successful silent auction. Every donation clearly shows that our work is appreciated far beyond the shelter gate.

The Grand ballroom was lively as guests arrived and mingled. The evening began with conversation and cocktails as the silent auction bid sheets began to fill up. A full course dinner followed with a few announcements from our president, Richard Zwirner. Bark! the Musical gave a enjoyable, heartfelt, preview of their show and the evening came to a close with the silent auction winners picking up their prizes. A full evening for a great cause.

So to the faithful volunteers, the friends who donated silent auction items, the supporters who sponsored tables and filled them with their friends and co-workers, and everyone who helped make this year's event happen, Thank you.
