You too could volunteer for Orphans of the Storm. We need dog walkers, cat groomers and newspaper and blanket collectors. To volunteer at the shelter, you must be at least 18 years old and agree to spend a minimum of 16 hours per month volunteering, and no less than 2 hours per visit. Just fill out the on-line form, or print it out or download a PDF version and mail it in to us. You will get a response from our Shelter Administrator.

Orphans of the Storm could not do the work it does without the hard work and dedication of dozens of dedicated volunteers who walk the dogs, groom the cats, and collect blankets and newspapers.

We’d like to introduce you to some of our long term volunteers. There is Jan Johnson who has been volunteering with us almost every week for 6 years. Jan is a wonderful dog walker and helps us keep a careful eye on the animals. Craig and Hope Steinberg have been with us for three years, and they have provided invaluable weekend help in the cat area fielding questions from prospective adopters. Howard and Vicki Ventura have been our volunteers for over 3 years and they are expert dog walkers and groomers. Eileen Rumpsa has been volunteering her love of animals and dog walking for 11 years. They all have helped us to socialize innumerable dogs and cats over the years. We welcome your participation as well. Click here for the volunteer application form.

Sponsor/Host an Event for Orphans of the Storm
Please consider Orphans of the Storm for an event you or your group would like to hold. An excellent way to support the work of Orphans of the Storm for many people has been to sponsor an event on our behalf. Holding an event that benefits Orphans of the Storm not only can help with monetary donations, but more critically, it also helps to raise awareness of Orphans of the Storm in your community. This helps to bring more adopters and supporters to Orphans’ doors. With the approval of our Shelter Administrator, we also accept donations of certain pet foods, toys and treats.

Dog Walk
A student in Northbrook has sponsored an annual Dog Walk for Orphans. Usually held in May, 40-80 participants come out on a Saturday morning and walk their dogs in a beautiful park in Northbrook, making donations to Orphans of the Storm in the process.

Birthday Parties and Special Occasions
There have been many birthday parties and other special occasions benefiting Orphans. For occasions such as anniversaries, confirmations and bar and bat mitzvahs donations have been made to Orphans in lieu of gifts. These have been very successful, and are a great way to involve the family and friends in supporting Orphans of the Storm.

School Events
We are very grateful to many schools throughout Northeast Illinois who have looked to Orphans of the Storm as the needy cause for their school event or drive. Events have ranged from a newspaper and blanket drive, to car washes, track and field races, to a bake sale.

Other Events
Many other organizations have benefited Orphans of the Storm. The events have ranged from making collection bins available in their location to holding a photography event and donating the proceeds. If you are thinking of sponsoring an event, just call us at 847 945 0235.
