Orphans of the Storm has a long history in working with the community. One of the most important ways is with our education and community service programs. We work with the community in many ways including supervised tours through our facility for schools and community groups, making speaking presentations to schools and community groups, and attending charity fairs and conferences.
Speaking Appearances
If you would like us to speak to your company, school or community group, please phone the shelter at 847 945 0235 to discuss it (See our contact page). We can give a 10-minute presentation or up to a longer 40-minute presentation. We mainly discuss the history of the shelter, what the shelter is today, how it operates and also about the animal overpopulation situation in greater Chicago and the need to spay and neuter. Some of the groups we have spoken to include the Rotary Clubs of Glenview and Highland Park, the Optimist Club of Deerfield, the Sears School in Kennilworth, the Lake Shore Country Day School in Wilmette among others.
Tours of Orphans of the Storm
Upon request, Pam Fradin will lead your school or community group through a supervised tour of Orphans of the Storm that includes walking around the facility and learning about how a large animal shelter operates. It is a chance to see first hand the real result of the pet overpopulation problem specifically in our area. Some of the groups weve given a tour to include the Brownies, the Cub Scouts, the Girl Scouts, school groups and others. Tours last one half hour and we ask that each group of children be accompanied by chaperones and that the group bring something for the animals (please call the shelter to find out what is most needed). This could include a collection of snacks, food, toys, newspapers or blankets. If your group would like to come to the shelter for a supervised tour, please call the shelter at least one month beforehand to arrange it. Tours are available Monday, Thursday, Friday and 11am on Saturdays.
We can also come to visit your companys or towns charity fair, just call the shelter at 847 945-0235 to arrange a visit.
